black magic cake
This is a Michigan family favorite. The recipe originated in a small Ann Arbor cookbook and has been adjusted to my family's liking.

Ingredients
- 1 3/4 cups flour
- 2 cups sugar
- 2 - eggs
- 3/4 cup cocoa
- 2 teaspoons baking soda
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 cup black coffee
- 1 cup buttermilk*
- 1/2 cup vegetable oil
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- FROSTING:
- 1 pint heavy whipping cream
- 1 sm package instant vanilla pudding mix

Step 1FOR CAKE: Preheat oven to 350 ˚F. Mix all dry ingredients in a bowl. Add eggs, coffee, milk, oil & vanilla. Beat for 2 minutes. Grease and flour a 9x13 baking dish, pour mixture into dish. Bake for 30-45 minutes.

Step 2FOR FROSTING: 1 pint heavy cream 1 small package instant pudding mix Whip cream and pudding mix until smooth. Spread on cooled cake.

Step 3*To make buttermilk: Mix 1 tablespoon white vinegar with 1 cup milk. Let stand for 1 minute.
