This is a Michigan family favorite. The recipe originated in a small Ann Arbor cookbook and has been adjusted to my family's liking.

Ingredients

  • 1 3/4 cups flour
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 2 - eggs
  • 3/4 cup cocoa
  • 2 teaspoons baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup black coffee
  • 1 cup buttermilk*
  • 1/2 cup vegetable oil
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • FROSTING:
  • 1 pint heavy whipping cream
  • 1 sm package instant vanilla pudding mix

How To Make black magic cake

  • Step 1
    FOR CAKE: Preheat oven to 350 ˚F. Mix all dry ingredients in a bowl. Add eggs, coffee, milk, oil & vanilla. Beat for 2 minutes. Grease and flour a 9x13 baking dish, pour mixture into dish. Bake for 30-45 minutes.
  • Step 2
    FOR FROSTING: 1 pint heavy cream 1 small package instant pudding mix Whip cream and pudding mix until smooth. Spread on cooled cake.
  • Step 3
    *To make buttermilk: Mix 1 tablespoon white vinegar with 1 cup milk. Let stand for 1 minute.
