  • 2 1/2 c
    all purpose flour
  • 1 1/2 tsp
    baking soda
  • 1 tsp
    salt
  • 1 tsp
    ground cinnamon
  • 3/4 tsp
    ground nutmeg
  • 1/2 tsp
    ground cloves
  • 1/4 tsp
    baking powder
  • 1 c
    butter softened
  • 2 c
    sugar
  • 2
    eggs
  • 16 oz
    canned applesauce
  • 3/4 c
    raisins
  • 1/2 c
    chopped walnuts

How to Make Alan's Applesauce Spice Cake

Step-by-Step

  1. Grease and flour 13x9x2 inch baking dish. Combine the first seven ingredients. Beat butter with electric mixer until creamy. Add sugar and beat until blended.
  2. Add eggs one at a time beating one minute after each addition.
  3. Add dry ingredients and applesauce alternately to the egg mixture, beating on low after each addition. Stir in raisins and nuts.
  4. Pour into pan and bake in 350 degree oven for 45 minutes or until done. Cool on wire rack in pan.
  5. (Serving suggestion - top each portion with whipped cream. Tint cream with red or green food coloring for Christmas cheer)
