I was browsing through a cookbook from 1963 and found this recipe. It caught my eye so I had to try it. Everyone here in my house says it's a keeper. We thoroughly enjoyed them. I've written the instructions as they are written.

Ingredients
- - 1/2 cup melted fat (i used oil)
- - 1 cup sugar
- - 3 sq. melted chocolate( i used 3 t. cocoa powder)
- - 3 eggs
- - 1/2 cup milk
- - 2 1/2 cups flour
- - 1 t. baking powder
- - 1 t. soda
- - 1/4 t. salt
- FILLING
- - 4 t. flour (heaping)
- - 1 cup of milk
- - 1/2 cup butter
- - 1 cup vegetable shortening
- - 1 cup sugar
- - 1 t. vanilla
How To Make whoopie pies

Step 1Mix sugar and shortening until fluffy.

Step 2Add melted chocolate and eggs.

Step 3Alternately add milk and flour sifted with baking powder, soda and salt. Drop by teaspoons on greased cookie sheet.

Step 4Bake at 350* for 10 minutes. Cool thoroughly.

Step 5FILLING: Cook four and milk until thick. It will look much like library paste. Cool.

Step 6Cream butter and shortening.

Step 7Add sugar and vanilla to shortening mixture and cream again.

Step 8Add flour mixture to shortening mixture.

Step 9Beat thoroughly with mixer until it is creamy.

Step 10Spread between two cookies making a top and bottom.

Step 11I had extra filling left over.
