This recipe is a modification from my original recipe in the attempt to make them a little healthier. They turned out great and will make them this way from now on unless I am making them for my aunt who probably prefers them the traditional way.

  • 1 c
    evaporated cane crystals or white sugar
  • 1 Tbsp
    anise extract
  • 1 Tbsp
    vanilla extract
  • 1 dash(es)
    of salt
  • 5 Tbsp
    ground anise seed
  • 2 Tbsp
    baking powder
  • 6 c
    whole wheat flour, i used freshly ground
  • 6 large
    eggs
  • 1 c
    melted butter
  • 1/2 c
    applesauce
  • ·
    sesame seeds

How to Make Whole Wheat Sesame Seed Cookies

Step-by-Step

  1. Combine all ingredients, flour last
  2. Let sit for 15 minutes
  3. Scoop ice cream scoopfuls onto cookie sheets or form into rings (which is the traditional way)
  4. Dip the top into sesame seeds
  5. Place onto greased cookie sheet.
  6. Bake at 350’ until barely golden on bottom, do not over bake
