These cookies have been on our holiday cookie tray for as long as I can remember. My aunt was the baker at that time. When my aunt passed away, the cookie detail fell to me. There are many recipes out there for these cookies but I haven't run across any with exactly these ingredients. They are light, delicate and not too sweet. Just be careful when you bite into them. Don't inhale because they immediately turn to dust in your mouth...in a good way.

Ingredients For walnut crescents

  • 1 c
    butter, softened
  • 1/4 c
    powdered sugar
  • 2 tsp
    vanilla
  • 1 Tbsp
    water
  • 2 c
    flour
  • 1 c
    chopped walnuts
  • powdered sugar for dusting

How To Make walnut crescents

  • 1
    Cream butter and powdered sugar together.
  • 2
    Add vanilla and water and mix until well incorporated.
  • 3
    Add flour, a little bit at a time, mixing well after each addition.

    Stir in walnuts.

    Roll by hand into one inch balls and then into crescent shapes. Place 1 inch apart on ungreased cookie sheet.

    Bake in a 375 degree oven for 20 minutes or until bottom begins to brown slightly. Top should be light in color.

    Let cool on pan for about 15 minutes and carefully remove from cookie sheet. They are very delicate.

    Dust with powdered sugar when completely cooled.
