My mom and gram used to bake these all the time. I remember it being so delicious and probably me and my brothers favorite because of the variety of preserves that they used in it. I didn't know that they were called Slovakian Kolacky. Mom and Gram used to call it "Jammie Cookies"! Thanks for the memories, Mom and Gram! Love you!!!

Ingredients

  • 2 packages active dry yeast
  • 1/4 cup warm water
  • 7 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 cups butter, softened
  • 4 - eggs, slightly beaten
  • 2 cups whipping cream
  • - fruit preserves, your choice

  • Step 1
    In a small bowl, dissolve the yeast in warm water.
  • Step 2
    In a large bowl, combine flour and salt, cut in the butter until crumbly.
  • Step 3
    Stir in the yeast, eggs and whipping cream.
  • Step 4
    Turn the dough onto a lightly floured surface, knead until smooth, 2 to 3 minutes.
  • Step 5
    Place in a greased bowl, turn greased side up. Cover, refrigerate until firm, about 6 hours or overnight.
  • Step 6
    Heat oven to 375 degrees.
  • Step 7
    Roll out dough, 1/2 at a time, on sugared surface to 1/8 of an inch thickness.
  • Step 8
    Cut into 3-inch squares and put a teaspoon of preserves in the center of each square.
  • Step 9
    Bring up two opposite corners to the center and pinch together tightly to seal then fold to one side and pinch again to seal.
  • Step 10
    Place then an inch apart on an ungreased cookie sheet.
  • Step 11
    Bake for 10 to 15 minutes or until lightly browned.
  • Step 12
    Makes about 5 dozen.
