Ingredients

  • 2 c
    sifted all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 c
    cane sugar
  • 1/2 tsp
    baking soda
  • 1/2 c
    light corn syrup
  • 1/2 c
    unsalted butter
  • 1 tsp
    ground cardamom
  • 1/4 tsp
    ground ginger
  • 1/4 tsp
    ground cloves
  • 2 tsp
    orange zest
  • 1
    egg

How to Make Swedish Spice Cookies

Step-by-Step

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Sift the Flour together with the sugar and baking soda.
  2. Combine the corn syrup, butter, spices and orange zest in a small saucepan; heat, just until the mixture boils and the butter melts. Remove from the heat and cool.
  3. Whisk the egg in a large bowl; slowly pour the cooled syrup into the egg, mixing well, with a wooden spoon.
  4. Stir in the flour mixture all at once; mix until well blended.
  5. Drop by teaspoonfuls to form the cookies, 2" apart on greased or parchment lined cookie sheets.
  6. Bake 11-13 minutes or until lightly browned. Transfer cookies to cooling racks. When cool, store in a lightly closed container.
