super chocolate chip cookies

I found this recipe in the Sunday food section of our local paper. Wow! These cookies are great if you like a lot of chocolate chips. Nuts are optional. They are good with or without the nuts. I store them in a can and they last 'forever'.

Ingredients
- 1 cup butter (i use unsalted) room temperature
- 1 cup butter flavored shortening
- 1 1/4 cups brown sugar
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 3 - eggs (room temperature)
- 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
- 4 cups all purpose flour
- 1 1/2 teaspoons baking soda
- 2 teaspoons salt
- 6 cups semi-sweet chocolate chips (2 1/2 lbs)
- 3 cups chopped nuts (optional)

Step 1Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Line cookie sheets with parchment paper

Step 2Cream butter, shortening and sugars until creamy (about 3 minutes). Add eggs, on at a time, beating after each addition. Add vanilla. Combine flour, salt, baking soda and stir until blended. Add flour mixture, 1 cup at a time to butter mixture, mixing until blended. Stir in chocolate chips and nuts.

Step 3Drop a tablespoon of dough onto cookie sheet, placing about 2 inches apart. Bake about 12 minutes. Cool. Makes about 6 dozen cookies.
