Ingredients

  • 1/2 c
    shortening, softened
  • 1/2 c
    granulated sugar
  • 1/2 c
    brown sugar, firmly packed
  • 1
    egg
  • 1/2 tsp
    vanilla
  • 1/2 tsp
    almond extract
  • 1/2 tsp
    soda
  • 2 tsp
    vinegar
  • 1.25 c
    sifted all purpose flour
  • 1/2 tsp
    salt
  • 3/4 c
    oats, quick or old-fashioned, uncooked

How to Make Sugar Crisps

Step-by-Step

  1. Beat shortening and sugars together until creamy.
  2. Blend in egg and flavorings.
  3. Dissolve soda in vinegar and add to creamed mixture.
  4. Sift together flour and salt and stir in oats.
  5. For ease in handling, chill dough about 1 hour.
  6. Shape to form 1-inch balls.
  7. Place on ungreased cooky sheets and flatten with bottom of glass dipped in sugar.
  8. Bake in preheated 350 degree oven for about 12 minutes.
