sugar cookies
Very easy to make and are the kind that melt in your mouth! Make sure you use Lard...otherwise they do not turn out correctly. This was my mother's recipe as is the photo.

Yields 4 dozen
Ingredients
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1 cup lard- must use lard!!
- 1 - egg
- 1 teaspoon vanilla
- 2 cups all purpose flour
- 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/2 teaspoon cream of tartar
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
How To Make sugar cookies

Step 1- Combine sugar and lard in a mixing bowl by using an electric mixer. - Add egg and vanilla. - Add the dry ingredients. - Select a glass or container with a flat bottom approximately 3" in diameter. - Drop dough by teaspoonful onto a cookie sheet and press with the sugared glass. - Re-sugar the glass and press again gently. - Add colored sugars to dipping bowl for seasonal cookies.

Step 2- Bake for about 8-10 minutes in a pre-heated 350 degree oven. - Do not let the cookies get brown.
