Don't look at this as "just another Sugar cookie recipe" cause it's not. These cookies literaly melt in your mouth with a perfect crispness. No need to roll them out, they are "ball" cookies. A lady gave me this recipe many years ago and everyone who tastes them can't stop with just one. The recipe makes alot and they freeze very well. I have never really timed how long it takes from start to finish for the whole process. But it is well worth the time.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups sugar
  • 1 cup real butter, softened (no substitutes)
  • 2 - small eggs
  • 1 cup veg. oil
  • 5 cups plain flour unsifted
  • 2 teaspoons soda
  • 2 teaspoons cream of tartar
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla

How To Make sugar cookies

  • Step 1
    Cream butter and sugar together
  • Step 2
add eggs, oil and mix well
  • Step 3
mix flour, soda, cream of tarter. Mix well then add to creamed mixture. Add vanilla.
  • Step 4
Roll dough in small balls the size of walnuts. Place on ungreased cookie sheet. Dip flat bottom glass in oil, then in sugar. Flatten each ball with glass. Dip glass in oil only once but in sugar for each ball. (I just give them a little tap and move on to the next one.)
  • Step 5
Bake in preheated oven 350 degrees for 10 minutes or until edges are barely turning golden. Cool on wire racks. I put 2 dozen cookies on a cookie sheet. Makes about 6-7 dozen cookies.
