This recipe was given to me over 25 years ago from an owner of a local ice cream shop. These cookies are delicious and easy to make. I do not add the lemon extract as I am not a big fan of lemon in my cookies.

Ingredients For sugar cookies

6 c

flour
1 1/2 tsp

baking powder
1 1/2 tsp

baking soda
1 1/2 tsp

salt
2 c

butter, softened
3 c

sugar
3

eggs (beaten)
6 Tbsp

milk
2 tsp

vanilla
1 1/2 tsp

lemon extract (optional)

How To Make sugar cookies

Preheat oven at 350*

Sift dry ingredients together.

Cream shortening and sugar together.

Blend in eggs, milk and vanilla.

Blend in dry ingredients.

Chill in refrigerator for 2 hours.

Make balls and roll in sugar. Or.... You can also roll out and cut out shapes If you are going to put icing on the cookies, do not roll them in sugar

Place on baking sheet.

Bake for 10 minutes. Baking time may vary depending on your oven

Remove from baking sheet and cool

Add icing if desired
