I love doing these cookies around Christmas. They are pretty rich and a hit with everyone else.

Ingredients
- 1 cup butter, softened
- 2 cups brown sugar, packed
- 3 - eggs, beaten
- 4 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/8 teaspoon salt
- DATE FILLING:
- 1 pound dates, chopped
- 1/2 cup water
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 1/2 cup walnuts, chopped
How To Make spider spirals

Step 1Blend together butter and brown sugar.

Step 2Add remaining ingredients; mix well. Cover and chill dough for 1 hour; divide into 4 equal parts.

Step 3Roll out each part 1/2" thick on a floured surface. Spread with date filling; roll up jelly-roll fashioned. Chill again.

Step 4Slice 1/4" thick; place on lightly greased baking sheets. Bake at 400* for 12 minutes.

Step 5Date Filling: In a saucepan over medium low heat, combine dates, water and sugar. Cook for 5 minutes, stirring frequently. Add walnuts; cool.
