I love doing these cookies around Christmas. They are pretty rich and a hit with everyone else.

Ingredients For spider spirals

  • 1 c
    butter, softened
  • 2 c
    brown sugar, packed
  • 3
    eggs, beaten
  • 4 c
    all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp
    baking soda
  • 1/8 tsp
    salt
  • DATE FILLING:
  • 1 lb
    dates, chopped
  • 1/2 c
    water
  • 1/2 c
    sugar
  • 1/2 c
    walnuts, chopped

How To Make spider spirals

    Blend together butter and brown sugar.

    Add remaining ingredients; mix well. Cover and chill dough for 1 hour; divide into 4 equal parts.

    Roll out each part 1/2" thick on a floured surface. Spread with date filling; roll up jelly-roll fashioned. Chill again.

    Slice 1/4" thick; place on lightly greased baking sheets. Bake at 400* for 12 minutes.

    Date Filling: In a saucepan over medium low heat, combine dates, water and sugar. Cook for 5 minutes, stirring frequently. Add walnuts; cool.
