sour cream cookies

I used to be a nanny for two children when i was just about 18. The woman I worked for made these every year for Christmas. When I got out on my own I asked her for the recipe and I have been making them every since! They are a delicious soft cookie with a light flavor and a sweet buttery icing on top!

Ingredients

  • - 1/2 cups crisco
  • - 1 1/2 c sugar
  • - 2 eggs
  • - 1 cup sour cream
  • - 1 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
  • - 2 3/4 c flour
  • - 1/2 tsp baking powder
  • - 1/2 tsp baking soda
  • - 1/2 tsp salt
  • BUTTERY FROSTING
  • - 1 c powdered sugar
  • - 1/2 cup melted butter
  • - 1 1/4 tsp vanilla
  • - enough milk or water to get correct consistancy
  • - a fellow jap member and friend pat duran suggests adding a tsp of karo corn syrup to the frosting to give it that shiny bakery look! i am def giving it a try!
  • TO DECORATE
  • - festive sprinkles and food coloring

How To Make sour cream cookies

  • Step 1
    Mix together sugar and shortening, then add eggs one at a time stirring after each egg.
  • Step 2
    Add vanilla and sour cream
  • Step 3
    Now stir in your dry ingredients.
  • Step 4
    Refrigerate dough for about an hour to make it easier to work with.
  • Step 5
    Drop dough by rounded teaspoonfuls onto ungreased cookie sheet and bake in 375 degree preheated oven for 8-10 minutes
  • Step 6
    cool slightly and remove from cookie sheet.
  • Step 7
    For icing: Mix sugar butter and vanilla together. Add milk until desired consistancy. Frost each cookie and then top with sprinkles or colored sugar
