Have been making these since in the 50s when I found this recipes in an old church cookbook.

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup shortening
  • 2 - eggs
  • 1 & 1/2 cups sugar
  • 1 cup sour cream
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 & 3/4 cups flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda

How To Make sour cream cookies

  • Step 1
    Cream shortening, eggs and sugar until well blended.
  • Step 2
    Stir in sour cream and vanilla.
  • Step 3
    Add flour, salt, baking powder, and baking soda. Mix well.
  • Step 4
    Chill dough a few hours. Drop by tablespoon onto cookied sheet.
  • Step 5
    Bake at 400 degrees for 8 to 10 minutes. The cookies will be just starting to turn tan. Let them cool a few minutes on the cookie sheet and then put them on racks to finish cooling.
  • Step 6
    These keep well in a covered container. Will be a soft type cookie.
