soft sugar drop cookies
This is the easiest sugar cookie I've ever made...just mix and drop! I have to give thanks to my husband's grandmother for her recipe! Whenever I make them, everyone asks for the recipe, and I'm happy to share!

Ingredients
- 1 1/2 cups sugar
- 1/2 cup shortening
- 1/2 cup butter
- 2 - eggs, beaten
- 1 cup buttermilk or *sour milk
- 3 teaspoons baking powder
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon lemon extract
- 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
- 3 1/2 cups flour, added a little at a time
How To Make soft sugar drop cookies
-
Step 1Heat oven to 375'F.
-
Step 2Combine all ingredients including 2 cups of the flour; mix well. If the dough is not stiff enough, add flour in small amounts until thick enough to hold it's shape when you drop them onto the cookie sheet. (I used all of the flour.)
-
Step 3Before baking, I place a scant spoonful of my hubby's favorite jam onto the top of some, leave some plain, then sprinkle them all with a little sugar.
-
Step 4Bake 8-10 minutes...no more than 10 minutes; watch carefully.
-
Step 5*To make sour milk just put 1 Tbsp. of vinegar into a measuring cup, add enough milk to measure 1 cup; stir. Voila! Sour milk.
