Wonderfully soft, moist sugar cookies - plain simple goodness. I decorated and sent a batch to my little girl's Easter party and they were gone in seconds.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup vegetable shortening
  • 1 cup butter
  • 2 1/4 cups white sugar
  • 3 - eggs
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
  • 5 1/4 cups all purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt

How To Make soft sugar cookies

  • Step 1
Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Cream together the butter, shortening and sugar. Stir in the eggs and vanilla. Combine the flour, baking powder and salt, stir into the creamed mixture until dough comes together. Roll dough into small or large balls - depending on how large you'd like your cookies and press them with a glass dipped in sugar or with a buttered palm if you plan to decorate them later. I use a small ice cream scoop to get consistent sizes. These do not spread much at all so do keep that in mind. Place them on an unprepared cookie sheet about 2 inches apart.
  • Step 2
Bake cookies 10 to 12 minutes in the preheated oven, until bottom is light brown. Remove from baking sheets to cool on wire racks.
