soft lavendar sugar cookie with orange glaze

I was asked to make a lavender cookie. I came up with this recipe and took them to share with my Bible study group and everyone enjoyed them. They loved the blend of lavender and orange flavors. My husband even liked them.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups sugar
  • 2/3 cup butter or half butter half shortening
  • 2 - eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 3 teaspoons culinary lavendar
  • 1 cup sour cream
  • 5 cups sifted flour
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons salt
  • GLAZE
  • 2 cups powdered sugar
  • 4 teaspoons light karo syrup
  • 4 teaspoons milk
  • - grated rind of an orange
  • 1/4 teaspoon orange flavoring

How To Make soft lavendar sugar cookie with orange glaze

  • Step 1
    Gradually add sugar to butter, creaming thoroughly; add eggs and beat until fluffy. Add vanilla and sour cream. Sift dry ingredients together and add, mixing to a smooth, soft dough. Chill thoroughly, ( I chill over night). Then roll out 1/3 inch thick on floured board, and cut in large 3" to 4" cookies. Place on greased baking sheet. Bake in moderate hot oven 375F until lightly browned.
  • Step 2
    When cookies are cool top with glaze.
  • Step 3
    Directions for glaze, add all ingredients mixing until smooth. If glaze is to stiff add more milk till spreading consistency. The glaze will dry to a shiny sheen.
