Nothing beats a soft and chewy cookies. They're even great with store bought vanilla frosting in a tub. I love decorating them with my daughter and gives us a great bonding time. If the lemon extract throws you off a bit, use less lemon and more vanilla.

2 3/4 c
all purpose flour
1 tsp
baking soda
1/2 tsp
baking powder
1/2 tsp
1 c
butter, softened
1 1/2 c
white sugar
1/2 tsp
pure vanilla extract
1 tsp
lemon extract
1 Tbsp
dried lemon peel
1/2 c
sugar for rolling cookies

How to Make Soft & Chewy Sugar Cookies


  • 1Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Line cookie sheets with parchment paper.
  • 2In a small bowl, stir together flour, baking soda, baking powder and salt. Set aside.
  • 3Using a mixer, beat together the butter and sugar until smooth and very fluffy.
  • 4Beat in egg, vanilla extract, lemon extract and lemon peel.
  • 5Gradually blend in the dry ingredients.
  • 6Roll rounded teaspoonfuls of dough into balls, and roll in sugar. Place on lined cookie sheets about 1 1/2 inches apart.
  • 7Bake 8 to 10 minutes in the preheated oven, or until lightly browned.
  • 8Let stand on cookie sheet two minutes before removing to cool on wire racks.
