There are lots of snickerdoodle recipes. I originally found this one in The Beverly Lewis Amish Heritage cookbook, but have tweaked it a bit to fit my family's tastes. The original recipe says that this makes 3 dozen cookies.......but I guess I make mine larger and only get about 1/2 of that.

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup butter, softened
  • 3/4 cup sugar
  • 1 - egg
  • 1 3/4 cups flour, sifted
  • 1 teaspoon cream of tartar
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • CINNAMON-SUGAR MIXTURE:

  • 2 tablespoons cinnamon

How To Make snickerdoodles

  • Step 1
Mix together butter, sugar, and egg.
  • Step 2
Sift together flour, cream of tartar, soda, and salt; stir into creamed mixture. Chill dough for 1 hour.
  • Step 3
Roll into balls the size of small walnuts.
  • Step 4
Combine sugar and cinnamon; roll balls in mixture. Place cookies 2-3 inches apart on ungreased baking sheets.
