snickerdoodles
There are lots of snickerdoodle recipes. I originally found this one in The Beverly Lewis Amish Heritage cookbook, but have tweaked it a bit to fit my family's tastes. The original recipe says that this makes 3 dozen cookies.......but I guess I make mine larger and only get about 1/2 of that.

Ingredients
- 1/2 cup butter, softened
- 3/4 cup sugar
- 1 - egg
- 1 3/4 cups flour, sifted
- 1 teaspoon cream of tartar
- 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- CINNAMON-SUGAR MIXTURE:
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 2 tablespoons cinnamon
How To Make snickerdoodles

Step 1Mix together butter, sugar, and egg.

Step 2Sift together flour, cream of tartar, soda, and salt; stir into creamed mixture. Chill dough for 1 hour.

Step 3Roll into balls the size of small walnuts.

Step 4Combine sugar and cinnamon; roll balls in mixture. Place cookies 2-3 inches apart on ungreased baking sheets.

Step 5Bake at 400 degrees until lightly browned, approximately 6-8 minutes. (Cookies puff up at first, then flatten out with a crinkled top).
