This is one of my favorite recipes from my grandma's cookbook. She was the greatest cook I have ever known. In Loving Memory of Edna Mae Boyce Dec. 25, 1927-Aug. 13, 2011

Ingredients

  • DOUGH INGREDIENTS
  • 1 cup soft shortening
  • 1 1/2 cups sugar
  • 2 - eggs
  • 2 3/4 cups sifted flour
  • 2 teaspoons cream of tartar
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • AFTER DOUGH INGREDIENTS
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 2 teaspoons cinnamon

How To Make snickerdoodles

  • Step 1
    Mix together thoroughly the shortening, sugar, and eggs.
  • Step 2
    In a separate bowl, sift together flour, cream of tartar, baking soda, and salt. Mix in with batter from STEP 1.
  • Step 3
    Chill dough for about an hour.
  • Step 4
    Take dough and roll into balls about the size of a walnut and then roll in sugar and cinnamon.
  • Step 5
    Place about 2 in. apart on an ungreased baking sheet. Cook on 400 for about 8-10 minutes. *Note: These cookies will puff at first, then flatten out with crinkled tops.
