Grandma W named 'Slices' cookies that are similar to biscotti, in that you cook the first time, then slice and cook again. This is her hazelnut version.

Ingredients
- 2 cups water
- 3 tablespoons baking soda
- 2/3 cup hazelnuts
- 1 2/3 cups flour
- 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 2 large eggs
- 2 teaspoons brandy
- 1 teaspoon vanilla
- 3/4 cup sugar

Step 1Boil water and soda, add nuts and boil 3-5 min. or until water turns black and skins can be peeled off. Put in colander and run cold water over until cool enough to remove the skins. Pat dry then toast about 5 min. Chop when cool. Combine with remaining ingredients, bake at 300 degrees 35 min. Cool and slice then bake 10-15 min more
