Ingredients
- 2 cups shortening
- 2 cups sugar
- 4 - eggs
- 4 teaspoons cream of tartar
- 1 teaspoon vanilla
- 2 teaspoons baking soda
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 5 1/4 cups flour
How To Make simple sugar cookies
-
Step 1Cream sugar and shortening together until fluffy. Add eggs. Then mix in cream of tartar, soda, vanilla, baking soda & salt. Start mixing in flour 1 cup at a time. Sometimes the dough is fine with 5 cups sometimes you'll need the extra 1/4 cup.
-
Step 2Then you want to refrigerate the dough for several hours or over night. You can then roll the dough out and make into cut outs or shape the dough into a log and slice for cookies. You can just spinkle the cookies with sugar or leave plain for frosting later. Set oven for 350...about 15 minutes before you plan on baking the cookies.
-
Step 3Bake for 8 to 12 minutes depending on how thick you've rolled or cut your cookies. Letting the cookies cool on the pans will make them a bit crunchier.
