Ingredients
- 1 cup shortening
- 1 cup white sugar
- 1/2 cup brown sugar, lightly packed
- 1 - egg
- 1 1/2 cups flour
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon
- 1 1/2 cups old fashioned oatmeal
- 3/4 cup finely chopped walnuts
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Step 1Cream together the shortening, white sugar and brown sugar. Add egg

Step 2Sift together the flour, baking soda, and cinnamon. Add it to first mixture.

Step 3Then add the oatmeal, walnuts and vanilla. Chill dough for an hour.

Step 4Drop walnut sized pieces on a greased cookie sheet. Butter the bottom of a small glass, then dip it in granulated sugar and use to flatten out the cookie balls. Just keep dipping in sugar-you don't need to re-butter the bottom of the glass.

Step 5Bake at 350° for 10 minutes. Makes about 6 dozen cookies
