Ingredients
- 2 cups unbleached all-purpose flour
- 2 cups brown sugar, firmly packed
- 1/2 cup butter
- 1 cup chopped nuts, optional
- 2 teaspoons cinnamon
- 1 teaspoon soda
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 cup sour cream or plain yogurt
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 - egg
- 2 cups apples, peeled and chopped
How To Make second day apple squares

Step 1Preheat oven to 350 degrees.

Step 2In a large bowl, combine the flour, brown sugar and butter.

Step 3Blend at low speed, until the mixture forms fine crumbs.

Step 4If you want to include them, stir in the nuts now.

Step 5Place about 2 3/4 cups of the crumb mixture into an ungreased pan, about 13 x 9 inches.

Step 6Press down firmly.

Step 7Add the remaining ingredients (except for the apples) to the remaining crumb mixture.

Step 8Blend well.

Step 9Stir the chopped apples into the batter.

Step 10Spoon the batter evenly over the crumb base in the pan.

Step 11Bake at 350 degrees for 30-40 minutes.

Step 12If you use the larger pan, bake for 25-30 minutes.

Step 13Cool before cutting, or better yet, wait 24 hours before cutting.

Step 14Store loosely covered.
