I first had scones when visiting a Shakespeare festival. One of the ladies at a tea sent me the recipe.

Ingredients For scones

  • 4 1/2 c
    bisquick baking mix
  • 1
    egg
  • 3 Tbsp
    butter, melted
  • 3 Tbsp
    powdered buttermilk, i purchase saco brand from stater brothers market
  • 1 c
    water
  • 1/3 c
    brown sugar
  • BUTTERSCOTCH
  • 3/4 c
    butterscotch morsels
  • ORANGE CRANBERRY - SUBSTITUTE O.J. FOR 1/2 OF THE WATER
  • 1/2 c
    orange juice
  • 1 1/2 tsp
    orange extract
  • 3 Tbsp
    orange zest
  • 3/4 - 1 c
    cranberries, dried
  • RAISIN
  • 1/2 c
    golden raisins
  • 1/2 c
    raisins
  • 1 tsp
    nutmeg
  • 1 1/2 tsp
    vanilla
  • 1 1/2 tsp
    cinnamon
  • APPLE CRANBERRY
  • 2
    apples, granny smith, peeled, cored, and chopped
  • 1 tsp
    cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp
    cloves
  • 1/2 tsp
    allspice
  • 3/4 c
    cranberries, dried
  • CLOTTED CREAM , SERVE ALONG SIDE ANY OF THE FRUITED SCONES
  • 1 c
    heavy whipping cream
  • 1 1/2 c
    sour cream
  • 3 - 4 Tbsp
    powdered sugar
  • OPTIONAL :FOR APPLE CRANBERRY OR CRANBERRY ORANGE - BEFORE BAKING SPRINKLE OVER TOP OF SCONES
  • turbinado sugar

How To Make scones

    Stir together dried Bisquick, sugar, dried buttermilk, spices with a spoon.

    Add egg, butter, water to dried mix. Stir til just mixed

    Add fruit. Stir.

    drop by spoonfuls, they form a sort of large RUSTIC looking cookie mountain. Bake 400* 12 - 14 minutes

    For the Orange - Cranberry Scones, before baking Sprinkle top of each scone w/ Turbinado sugar or after completely cooled Drizzle a glaze over top of OJ mixed with Powdered Sugar & Zest of 1 orange.

    For Clotted Cream: Add powdered sugar to sour cream, mix well, set aside. Beat whipping cream til stiff, stir in sour cream and sugar.

    Apple Cranberry before baking sprinkle w/ Turbinado sugar
