1/2 c
unsalted butter
1/2 c
1/2 c
white sugar
1 c
brown sugar
juice from one orange
1 1/2 Tbsp
vanilla extract
2 1/4 c
grated orange rind
1 tsp
grated ginger
1 tsp
baking soda
1/2 tsp
coarse sea salt or kosher salt
1/4 tsp
2 c
dark chocolate chips (i used hershey's)
extra sprinkling of coarse salt for garnish

How to Make Salted Dark Chocolate Cookies


  • 1Combine flour, salt, baking powder, grated orange peel and grated ginger in bowl.
  • 2Using a mixer, in a separate bowl, cream together the butter, shortening, all sugars, orange juice, and vanilla until light and fluffy.
  • 3One at a time, add eggs to wet mixture, mixing well after each egg.
  • 4Fold dry ingredients, and chocolate chips, into wet bowl.
  • 5Chill for about 15 minutes. While chilling, preheat your oven to 350*.
  • 6Drop onto buttered cookie sheet by the spoonful. Bake 8-10 minutes until light golden brown, and still a little soft in the middle.
  • 7Immediately after removing them from the pan, sprinkle just a pinch of coarse salt on the tops of the cookies.
