Chocolate and salt... the ultimate combination?! Possibly! These are especially delicious with the hint of orange and ginger.

Ingredients For salted dark chocolate cookies

  • 1/2 c
    unsalted butter
  • 1/2 c
    shortening
  • 1/2 c
    white sugar
  • 1 c
    brown sugar
  • 1
    juice from one orange
  • 2
    eggs
  • 1 1/2 Tbsp
    vanilla extract
  • 2 1/4 c
    flour
  • 1
    grated orange rind
  • 1 tsp
    grated ginger
  • 1 tsp
    baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp
    coarse sea salt or kosher salt
  • 1/4 tsp
    salt
  • 2 c
    dark chocolate chips (i used hershey's)
  • extra sprinkling of coarse salt for garnish

How To Make salted dark chocolate cookies

    Combine flour, salt, baking powder, grated orange peel and grated ginger in bowl.

    Using a mixer, in a separate bowl, cream together the butter, shortening, all sugars, orange juice, and vanilla until light and fluffy.

    One at a time, add eggs to wet mixture, mixing well after each egg.

    Fold dry ingredients, and chocolate chips, into wet bowl.

    Chill for about 15 minutes. While chilling, preheat your oven to 350*.

    Drop onto buttered cookie sheet by the spoonful. Bake 8-10 minutes until light golden brown, and still a little soft in the middle.

    Immediately after removing them from the pan, sprinkle just a pinch of coarse salt on the tops of the cookies.
