This recipe came from our Auntie Ode. She was really Gramma Bea's aunt but we still called her auntie. She got this recipe out of a very old cookbook from Sleepy Eye, MN.

Ingredients

  • 2 c
    raisins
  • 2 c
    brown sugar
  • 1 c
    shortening
  • 3
    eggs - beaten
  • 1 tsp
    vanilla
  • 4 c
    flour
  • 1 tsp
    baking soda
  • 1 1/2 tsp
    cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp
    nutmeg
  • 1/4 tsp
    allspice

How to Make Rocks

Step-by-Step

  1. Boil the raisins in 1 1/2 c water for 5 min. Let cool and drain.
  2. Cream brown sugar and shortening, then add the eggs and vanilla. Stir in the dry ingredients. Bake at 350 for 10 to 12 min. These are a soft spicy cookie.
