all-purpose flour

whole wheat flour

ground cloves
1/3 tsp
black pepper
1 tsp
baking soda

How to Make Richmond Ginger Cakes


  • 1In a bowl, beat together butter and brown sugar until creamy. Beat in molasses and the egg. In a separate bowl, combine flours, ginger, cinnamon, cloves, pepper, and baking soda.
  • 2Beat dry mixture into butter mixture. Combine well. Dough will be a little sticky.
  • 3Shape dough into 1 inch balls. Place on a lightly greased cookie sheet. Bake for 10 minutes at 350 degrees.
  • 4Cool for a minute on cookie sheet before transferring cookies to a rack to completely cool.
