My Great Aunt gave this recipe to my grandma many many years ago. I made it all the time as a kid, and still remains one of my favorite bar recipes.

Ingredients
- 1 cup raisins
- 2 cups water
- 1/2 cup shortening/butter/margarine
- 1 cup sugar
- 2 cups flour
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1 - beaten egg
- 1 teaspoon ground cloves
- 1 teaspoon allspice
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
How To Make raisin spice bars

Step 1Boil 1 cup raisins and 2 cups water for 3 minutes. Drain juice and save.

Step 2Cream 1/2 cup butter with 1 cup sugar. Add 2 cups flour and 1/4 tsp. salt and mix well.

Step 3In a separate bowl, mix beaten egg, cloves, allspice, cinnamon, and baking soda. Add to the flour mixture along with 1 cup of the raisin juice and mix well. Stir in raisins after that is mixed.

Step 4Spread dough to corners of greased 9x13 cake pan or a greased cookie sheet. Bake at 350 degrees for 25 minutes or until done.

Step 5Frost while hot with a powdered sugar frosting or cream cheese frosting. Enjoy!
