I'm not sure exactly how old this recipe is, but I do know they were my great-grandfathers favorite cookie

Ingredients

  • 2 1/2 cups raisins
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 2 tablespoons cornstarch
  • 3/4 cup water
  • 3 tablespoons lemon juice
  • CRUMB MIXTURE
  • 3/4 cup butter
  • 1 cup brown sugar packed
  • 1 3/4 cups sifted flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 1/2 cups rolled oats

How To Make raisin mumbles

  • Step 1
    For the raisin filling mix the raisins, sugar, cornstarch, water and lemon juice.
  • Step 2
    Cook stirring constantly over low heat until thickened about 5 minutes. Cool.
  • Step 3
    For the crumb mixture. Mix butter with sugar, add dry ingredients, then mix in the oat. Mix well.
  • Step 4
    Press half of the crumb mixture into greased 13x 9x 2 pan.
  • Step 5
    Spread the raisin filling over the pressed on crumb mixture.
  • Step 6
    Pat on remaining crumb mixture on top of filling.
  • Step 7
    Bake at 400 degrees 20 to 30 minutes.
  • Step 8
    Cool and cut into bars.
