Grandma made these every year at Christmas, although we begged for them all year round. Now it's my childrens turn to ask, at least twice a month for them.

Add to Grocery List

1/2 lb
cream cheese (softened)
1/2 lb
butter (softened)
2 c
all purpose flour
egg yolk
1 tsp
lemon juice
lekvar (prune butter)
preserves (your favorite)
confectioners' sugar

How to Make Philly Blankets

  • 1Cream together cream cheese, butter and egg yolk.
  • 2Knead in flour 1/2 cup at a time. Add lemon juice. Continue until rolling consistency.
  • 3Flour flat surface. I pull dough apart into softball size pieces(makes it easier to handle). Roll out to approximately 1/4 in thickness. Use either round cookie cutter or round drinking glass to cut out cookies.
  • 4In the center of each cookie drop a tablespoon of preserves or lekvar. Fold cookie and press edges with fork.
  • 5Bake at 350 degrees for 8-10 minutes on an ungreased cookie sheet.
  • 6Cool and sprinkle with powdered sugar.
