This recipe was from my friend, Laura's mom. These are extremely rich cookies and the long prep time is due to chilling.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup softened butter
  • 1 cup sifted confectioner's sugar
  • 1 teaspoon flavoring of your choice (i like almond, rum or vanilla)
  • 2 1/2 cups sifted flour
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 package semi-sweet chocolate morsels melted

How To Make petticoat tails

  • Step 1
    In a small bowl sift together flour and salt.
  • Step 2
    In large bowl cream butter.
  • Step 3
    Add sugar and flavoring.
  • Step 4
    Divide dough into 4 parts. Make each into a rectangular shape.
  • Step 5
    Chill for 1 hour.
  • Step 6
    Preheat oven to 400 degrees.
  • Step 7
    Remove from refrigerator and slice chilled dough approximately 1/3" thick each.
  • Step 8
    Bake on UN-greased baking sheet for 5 - 6 minutes. (The tops will appear uncooked but will be semi-firm. The bottoms of the cookies will be lightly browned.
  • Step 9
    Cool completely. Ice each cookie with the melted semi-sweet chocolate.
