Ingredients

  • 1 cup shortening
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 cup packed brown sugar
  • 2/3 cup peanut butter
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1/3 cup water
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 cups all purpose flour
  • 1 1/2 cups quick cooking oats
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • ICING
  • 1/3 cup butter, softened
  • 2/3 cup peanut butter
  • 2 cups confectioners' sugar
  • 1/3 cup milk

How To Make peanut butter squares

  • Step 1
    In a large mixing bowl, cream sugars, shortening and peanut butter.
  • Step 2
    Add eggs, one at a time, beating well after each addition.
  • Step 3
    Add water and vanilla; mix well.
  • Step 4
    Combine the dry ingredients and then mix wet and dry ingredients until combined.
  • Step 5
    Pour into a greased 15-in. x 10-in. x 1in. baking pan.
  • Step 6
    Bake at 325 for 20-25 minutes or until a toothpick inserted near the center comes out clean.
  • Step 7
    In a small mixing bowl, beat the icing ingredients until smooth. Pour over warm bars. Cool.
