I grew up on these cookies ... my mom made them every year at Christmas and we used red and green sugar sprinkled on top to make them "Christmasy!"

Ingredients
- 1 cup shortening
- 1 1/2 cups sugar
- 2 - eggs
- 2 3/4 cups flour
- 2 teaspoons cream of tartar
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
- 2 tablespoons sugar
- 2 teaspoons cinnamon
How To Make original snickerdoodles

Step 1Cream together the first 3 ingredients.

Step 2Sift together and then stir in the next 4 ingredients.

Step 3Chill dough in bowl until firm.

Step 4Roll into balls.

Step 5Roll in cinnamon/sugar mixture.

Step 6Place 1 1/2 inches apart on a cookie sheet.

Step 7Bake until lightly brown. (375 for approximately 10 minutes.)

Step 8(Cookies puff up first and then flatten and crinkle on top.)
