This was a handwritten recipe in my Mom's collection. I remember them as good but have not tried out the recipe for years.

Ingredients
- CRUST:
- 1/4 cup crisco
- 1/2 cup brown sugar
- 1 cup flour
- 1/8 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
- TOPPING:
- 1 cup brown sugar, firmly packed
- 2 - well beaten eggs
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon vanilla
- 1 cup coconut
- 1 1/2 cups rice crispie cereal
- 1/2 cup chopped nuts
How To Make old fashioned crispette squares (dated 1950)

Step 1Cream 1/4 cup Crisco and 1/2 cup brown sugar Sift together 1 cup flour, 1/8 tsp. salt, 1/4 tps nutmeg. With fork or pastry blender cut Crisco mixture into flour mixture until well blended. Press into a 9 inch square (parchment paper lined) pan. Bake 15 minutes in 350 degree oven.

Step 2Add 1 cup brown sugar to 2 well beaten eggs. Stir to mix. Add 1/4 tsp salt, 1 tsp. vanilla, 1 cup coconut,mix well. Stir in 1 1/2 cup rice crispies, 1/2 cup chopped nuts. Spread over baked layer and continue baking 24 minutes more. Cut into squares while warm.
