I was given this recipe by a friend of mine. It comes from a organization compiled cookbook put together by a church ladies group in 1969. This one is by Elizabeth Bundy. I know it's a good one!

Ingredients

  • 1 c
    brown sugar
  • 1 tsp
    vanilla
  • 3
    eggs
  • 5 c
    all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp
    baking soda in 4 tablespoons of water
  • 1 c
    shortening
  • 1 tsp
    cream of tartar
  • 1 tsp
    nutmeg
  • 1 c
    granulated sugar
  • 1 tsp
    salt
  • 1 c
    buttermilk

How to Make Ol' Fashioned Puffy Sugar Cookies

Step-by-Step

  1. Mix all together and drop from a spoon on a prepared (sprayed) cookie sheet. Flatten with the bottom of a drinking glass dampened and dipped in sugar. Bake at 375 degrees until light brown.
