Ingredients
- 3/4 cup vegetable shortening
- 1 cup brown sugar, firmly packed
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 1 - egg
- 1/4 cup water
- 1 teaspoon vanilla
- 3 cups uncooked oats, quick cooking
- 1 cup all purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
- - optional (raisins, flavored chips, coconut or nuts)

Step 1Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Beat together shortning, sugars, egg, water, and vanilla until creamy. Set aside.

Step 2In a seperate bowl combine oats, flour, salt, and baking soda. If your adding any other ingredient this is the time to fold it in also.

Step 3Combine the dry ingredients into the wet in 3 stages. Mix well.

Step 4Drop rounded teaspoons onto greased cookie sheet. Bake for 12-15 minutes. Cool slightly before transfering to wire racks.
