Ingredients

  • 1 c
    packed brown sugar
  • 1/2 c
    sugar
  • 3/4 c
    vegetable shortening
  • 1/4 c
    water
  • 1
    egg
  • 1 tsp
    vanilla extract
  • 3 c
    old fashioned oatmeal
  • 1 c
    all purpose flour
  • 1/2 tsp
    baking soda
  • 1 c
    raisins
  • 1 tsp
    ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp
    ground nutmeg

How to Make Oatmeal Spice Cookies

Step-by-Step

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
  2. Lightly grease cookie sheet, or line cookie sheet with parchment paper.
  3. Beat sugars, shortening, water, egg and vanilla until creamy.
  4. Combine oats, flour, baking soda, cinnamon and nutmeg.
  5. Add 1 teaspoon of salt, if desired.
  6. Add to shortening mixture; mix well. Stir in raisins.
  7. Drop by rounded teaspoons onto prepared cookie sheet.
  8. Bake 12 to 14 minutes or until light golden brown.
  9. Let stand 1 minute before removing to racks to cool. Makes 6 dozen.
