packed brown sugar
1/2 c
3/4 c
vegetable shortening
1/4 c
1 tsp
vanilla extract
3 c
old fashioned oatmeal
1 c
all purpose flour
1/2 tsp
baking soda
1 c
1 tsp
ground cinnamon
1/2 tsp
ground nutmeg

How to Make Oatmeal Spice Cookies


  • 1Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
  • 2Lightly grease cookie sheet, or line cookie sheet with parchment paper.
  • 3Beat sugars, shortening, water, egg and vanilla until creamy.
  • 4Combine oats, flour, baking soda, cinnamon and nutmeg.
  • 5Add 1 teaspoon of salt, if desired.
  • 6Add to shortening mixture; mix well. Stir in raisins.
  • 7Drop by rounded teaspoons onto prepared cookie sheet.
  • 8Bake 12 to 14 minutes or until light golden brown.
  • 9Let stand 1 minute before removing to racks to cool. Makes 6 dozen.
