When I lived in L.A. there was a bakery who made Oatmeal Pear Chocolate Chip Muffins. Over the years I have worked to turn them into a cookie. I have finally got it right. These are my husbands favorite fall cookie.

  • 2 c
    all purpose flour
  • 2 tsp
    baking powder
  • 2 tsp
    cinnamon (i use 1 tbl)
  • 1 tsp
  • 1 tsp
  • 1 c
    shortening, butter flavor
  • 1 1/2 c

  • 2 c
    oats, quick cooking
  • 2 c
    pears without skin (chopped)
  • 1 c
    chocolate chips
  • 1 c
    walnut pieces

How to Make Oatmeal Pear Chocolate Chip Cookies


  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.
  2. In a large bowl, cream together the shortening and sugar. Beat in the eggs until well blended. Combine the flour, baking powder, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt; stir into the sugar mixture until well blended. Fold in the walnuts, oats, pears and chocolate chips. Drop dough by spoonfuls about 2 inches onto ungreased cookie sheets.
  3. Bake for 12 to 15 minutes (or until lightly browned) in the preheated oven. Let cool on wire rack
