I came up with this recipe when I looked through my baking drawer and saw small amounts of different cookie "add-ins". They travel well and were a big hit when I sent them to a soldier friend in Afghanistan.

Ingredients

  • 1 c
    margarine or butter, softened
  • 1 c
    brown sugar, firmly packed
  • 1 c
    sugar
  • 2 large
    eggs
  • 1 tsp
    vanilla extract
  • 2 c
    quick cooking oats
  • 2 c
    flour
  • 1 tsp
    baking soda
  • 1 tsp
    baking powder
  • 3/4 tsp
    salt
  • 1/2 c
    golden raisins
  • 1/2 c
    dried cranberries
  • 1/2 c
    semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 1/2 c
    chopped walnuts
  • 1/2 c
    coconut, flaked

How to Make Oatmeal Everything Cookies

Step-by-Step

  1. Beat margarine, sugars, eggs and vanilla for 5 minutes.
  2. Combine dry ingredients, add slowly to creamed mixture. Stir in fruits, chips and nuts.
  3. Drop by teaspoons onto ungreased baking sheets. Bake at 350 degrees for 12-14 minutes. Cool on racks. Makes 4 1/2 dozen.
  4. NOTES: You can use any favorite combination of chips, dried fruit, nuts and/or coconut in these cookies, as long as the total amount adds up to 2 1/2 cups.
