The recipe directions I have written, I left out the walnuts. They are optional, and you can decide if you want them or not.
Blue Ribbon Recipe
These are not your run-of-the-mill oatmeal cookies. They're thin and chewy. Creaming both brown sugar and white sugar with the butter adds nice flavor. If you opt to add the nuts, they do add a touch of crunch and nutty flavor. Slightly rich, these oatmeal crisps are made with ingredients you probably have in your pantry.

Ingredients
- 1 cup butter, softened
- 1 cup brown sugar, firmly packed
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 2 large eggs
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 3 cups rolled oats
- 1/2 cup chopped walnuts (optional)

Make sure to leave room between the balls of dough. Since they do not have baking powder, they spread in the baking process.

Step 1Cream butter, brown sugar, and granulated sugar.

Step 2Add eggs and vanilla, beat well.

Step 3Mix flour, salt, and baking soda.

Step 4Add the flour mix to the butter mix a little at a time.

Step 5Add oats and mix well.

Step 6Add walnuts if you are using them at this time.

Step 7Chill the dough for about an hour.

Step 8Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Scoop out 1 Tbsp of dough. Place the dough on a parchment-lined baking sheet.

Step 9Bake in the preheated oven for 10 minutes or until slightly brown.

Step 10Place on rack to cool, then eat.
