They are made with the old-fashioned oatmeal, and this time all I had was Bread Flour not All-Purpose Flour. So using a recipe off the box of oatmeal which I have enjoyed many times, I altered the recipe and used bread flour, a little less and also added a little applesauce! They do have a nice chewy texture which I LOVE.

  • 1 stick butter softened
  • 3/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup sugar, granulated
  • 2 - eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 1/4 cups unbleached-bread flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 3 cups oatmeal; i like the old-fashioned/ uncooked rolled oats/not quick cooking
  • 1 cup raisins
  • 1/2 cup or 4 ounce/individual size (113g) unsweetened apple sauce

How To Make oatmeal cookies - very chewy

  • Step 1
Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Don't grease the baking sheets. I make good-sized cookies, so about half as many as the recipe states, perhaps 2 1/2 dozen.
  • Step 2
Combine butter, both kinds sugar, eggs, vanilla. Measure and mix dry ingredient, combine with above ingredients. Stir in oatmeal, add raisins, and stir in a little applesauce.
  • Step 3
Measure by rounded spoonsful onto sheet and bake about THIRTEEN MINUTES. Let rest on pan until almost cool and loosen from pan, let cool completely. Then keep in tight container.
