My Mom taught me how to make these cookies. They were my Papaw's favorite, and now they're mine too! You can make them with old fashioned oats or quick cook oats. But with the quick cook oats, they tend to set up faster, so beware!

Ingredients For no-bake cookies

  • 2 c
    sugar (white)
  • 1/2 c
    margarine/butter
  • 4 Tbsp
    cocoa, unsweetened
  • 1/2 c
    milk
  • 1 tsp
    vanilla
  • 1/2 c
    peanut butter, creamy
  • 3 c
    oats

How To Make no-bake cookies

  • 1
Put sugar, margarine/butter, cocoa and milk in a medium sauce pan. Bring to boil, stirring often.
  • 2
Boil for 5 minutes or until soft ball stage. (You can test this without a candy thermometer by putting some cold water in a clear glass, and dropping a few drops of the boiling mixture into it. It should form into a ball, and when you take it out of the water, it should flatten in your hand in seconds. If it doesn't form into a ball, try again after a minute, and continue doing so until it does flatten like a pancake in your hand.)
  • 3
Remove from heat. Add the vanilla and peanut butter. Stir until the peanut butter is partially melted. Begin stirring in the oats one cup at a time, until they are well coated, and then add in the next cup. They will be come harder to mix the more oats you add.
  • 4
Drop by teaspoonfuls (not measuring teaspoons, just regular eating teaspoons)onto waxed paper. Let cool.
  • 5
Peel off of the waxed paper, and store in an airtight container!

If your family loves peanut butter and chocolate as much as my family does, they won't last a day! =0)
