This recipe comes from my niece Emily (Beach) Metzgar. I love that this is a slightly different chocolate cookie because of the molasses in it.

How to Make New and Improved Chocolate Cookies!

  1. Preheat oven to 350 F. Cream together the shortening, butter, sugars, milk, vanilla & molasses. Blend until creamy. Blend in eggs. Combine flour, salt and baking soda. Add to creamy mixture gradually. Stir in chocolate chips. Drop rounded teaspoonfuls of dough 3 inches apart on ungreased baking sheet. Bake for 10 minutes. Cool on baking sheet 2 minutes. Remove to cooling rack. Makes 5 dozen cookies.
  2. Tip: add extra flour for a thicker, chewier cookie (1/2-1 cup at first, add more if desired). Or add a cup of oatmeal--this recipe is very flexible
