I usually do not like the flavor of molasses but when combined with cinnamon and nutmeg it is really good. I use sorghum when I am making these for my grandpa.

Ingredients For mom's molasses cookies

3/4 cshortening

1 1/4 csugar, divided

1egg
-
1/4 cmolasses or sorghum

2 Tbspmilk

1 tspvanilla extract

2 1/2 call purpose flour

1 1/2 tspbaking soda

1 tspground cinnamon

3/4 tspsalt

3/4 tspground nutmeg
How To Make mom's molasses cookies

1In a large bowl, cream shortening and 1 cup sugar.

2Beat in the egg, molasses, milk, and vanilla.

3Combine the flour, baking soda, cinnamon, salt, and nutmeg. Gradually add to creamed mixture

4Cover and refrigerate for 1 hour.

5Roll in 1 1/4" balls. Roll in remaining sugar. Place 2" apart on greased baking sheets. Bake at 350* for 10-14 minutes or until tops crack and edges are slightly firm Remove to a wire rack to cool.
