This recipe comes from my grandmother, Julia May Miller, who died in 1950. Maybe I never ate one she made. However, my mom made this recipe probably a thousand times while I lived at home.

While not at all fancy, these cookies are just plain delicious. They have been loved by five generations of my family!

Ingredients

  • 1 c
    butter
  • 2 c
    brown sugar, firmly packed
  • 2
    eggs
  • 1 tsp
    vanilla
  • 1 tsp
    baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp
    salt
  • 3 1/2 c
    flour
  • 1 c
    coconut (or more if you wish !)
  • ·
    nuts as desired

How to Make Mom Miller's Mission Tea Cookies

Step-by-Step

  1. Preheat oven to 375 degrees.
  2. With a mixer, cream butter and brown sugar well. Add eggs and vanilla. Mix well.
  3. Mix flour, baking soda,and salt. Add to butter/sugar mixture.
  4. Add coconut and nuts if using.

    I love coconut, so I pack the cup or add another handful!
  5. Roll dough into 1 inch balls, and place on greased cookie sheet. Flatten each ball with a fork dipped in cold water.
  6. Bake 10-12 minutes. Remove cookies to a rack to cool.
