This recipe is from a volunteer service league cookbook. They're easy and tasty. But look out! The dough is very stiff.

Ingredients

1 1/2 c
crisco (i use butter-flavored)
1/2 c
full-flavored or original molasses
2 c
sugar
4 c
flour
2
eggs, slightly beaten
4 tsp
baking soda
1 1/2 tsp
cloves
4 tsp
cinnamon
2 tsp
ginger
1 tsp
salt

Step-By-Step

1Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
Melt shortening and let cool. Stir in mosasses and eggs. Add remaining ingredients and mix well. Dough is VERY stiff and won't want to cling together. Chill. Form into small 1 1/2" balls; roll in sugar. Place on cookie sheet. Do NOT FLATTEN them.
2Bake 10 - 14 minutes. Edges will be browned and the centers will be soft.
3The dough freezes well. When thawed, roll into balls as above and bake according to directions.
