Ingredients

  • 3/4 cup shortening
  • 1 cup brown sugar, firmly packed
  • 1 - egg
  • 1/4 cup molasses
  • 2 1/4 cups all purpose flour
  • 2 teaspoons baking soda
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon cloves
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon

How To Make molasses crinkles

  • Step 1
Mix shortening, sugar, egg and molasses thoroughly. Combine dry ingredients and add to first mixture. Chill for about 1 hr.
  • Step 2
Roll into balls about the size of a large walnut. Dip tops in sugar and place sugar side up on greased cookie sheets abot 2" apart.
  • Step 3
Dip tip of finger in a small cup of water and touch the top of each cookie to wet the sugar (that's what makes the crackle effect when baked.)
  • Step 4
Bake at 375* for 10-12 minutes. Cool for a few minutes and remove to cooling rack. Makes 4 dozen.
